MANKATO (TEC News) - Education officials are urging those who don't have a GED or diploma to take their test before January 2014. The exams will be changing within the next year as well as federal financial aid requirements. We spoke with Karen Walters, transition coordinator for the Mankato Area adult basic education and she said the time to test is now: GED testing "Laws were passed about a year ago that changed the federal financial aid guidelines. And no longer can people get federal financial aid if they go to college without a GED or diploma." :14 sec
A GED is a high school equivalency diploma earned by those who successfully complete a series of tests which covers five academic areas: math, language arts reading, science, social studies and language arts writing.
