Stalker Outside Mankato Business Runs From Police

MANKATO – Police chased and Tasered a Mankato man accused of harassing and stalking a woman Monday at a Mankato business.

When police arrived at the Electric Beach, the man was near the front door of the business. Officers say when he saw the squad car he shed his sandals and shirt and fled on foot.

Police gave chase, eventually catching up with him on the track at Mankato East High School. It took three shots from a Taser to take 19-year-old Mal Pauliet Tharjiath into custody.

Investigators say Tharjiath and the victim barely know each other. However, there was an incident involving Tharijath and the same woman in October 2010 that did not involve any charges.

There was no restraining order between the two.

Police declined to say if the victim was an employee of the business.

Tharjiath was jailed pending a court appearance.
