MANKATO – Statements made to police by the man who allegedly shot his wife in Rasmussen Woods have been suppressed. Judge Kurt Johnson has sided with the defense, saying a police interview with Joel Munt should have stopped when he told investigators “I probably should have a lawyer here for all the good it will do.”
Recorded statements made by Munt while he was alone inside the interview room have also been ruled out for his September murder trial.
Munt is accused of shooting his estranged wife while she was in her car with the couple's three children. Munt then took the children, took another family's vehicle at gunpoint and fled the park, before law enforcement stopped him a short time later.
