Mankato Job Losses Described As Nominal



MANKATO -- Minnesota unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percent in May to 6.6 percent.

That’s compared to a
US rate of 9.1 percent.

Minnesota
added 1,200 jobs in May. Minnesota has added 7,300 jobs in the last two months, including 2,200 jobs in the construction sector.
 
Regional job numbers for the Mankato area show there were 91 fewer jobs from April to May. But Greater Mankato Growth CEO Jonathan Zierdt says the drop of two-tenths of one percent is nominal.
 
Year-over job numbers from May 2009 through May 2010 are down just under one percent for the Mankato statistical area, which includes Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties.

However job numbers in goods producing businesses are up 1.4 percent. Service providing job numbers are down 1.4 percent.
