MANKATO – A 28-year-old Iowa man is in trouble after allegedly using force to free his pit bull from the Mankato impound.
Police seized the dog belonging to 28-year-old Jonathan Halvorsen early Sunday after a report of a dog left alone in a pickup truck outside Homestead Apartments.
Halvorsen went to the pound to meet the officer to pick up the dog and found a part-time officer walking it.
After a tugging match with the officer, Halvorsen picked up his dog, took out a knife and cut the leash and tried to leave.

In court Halvorsen said “none of this should have happened.”
He called the officer's efforts to find him “laziness” saying the landlord at Homestead Apartments would have been able to tell police where to find him because they had been warned about keeping the dog in his friend’s apartment.
