According Greater Mankato Growth (GMG), the region gained 534 jobs from August to September. Overall, the Mankato area has 1,270 more jobs than last year.
The Current Employment Statistics date measure the number of paid employees in a particular region, excluding self-employment and farm jobs.
According to GMG, over the last year, the government sector has lost 12 jobs, while the private secotr added 1,282 jobs. Of those private sector jobs, 84% were service producing and 16% were goods producing.
The month over month increase saw the government sector adding 813 jobs and the private sector losing 279 jobs.
Minnesota’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.9 percent for September. The most recent unemployment numbers locally were for August. They were at 5.8 percent for the region.
That’s compared to a U.S. unemployment rate of 9.1 percent.
