Officer Injured In Bar Room Ruckus



MANKATO (TEC News) -- A bar fight Friday night led to one man's arrest and a Mankato police officer being taken to the hospital.
 
Officers responded to the South Street Saloon just after 11:30 p.m. Those at the bar pointed out a man, later identified as 31-year-old Adam Eugene Shephard, that was involved in the disturbance.
 
Commander Dan Schisel says Shephard refused to identify himself, setting off a confrontation where he allegedly resisted arrest.
 
The officer raised his Taser and Shephard allegedly told the officer to "do it." A Taser shot was fired, but Shephard pulled the barb out of his body and continued toward the officer.
 
The officer tried to put a move on Shephard to restrain him, but at 6-4 and 285, he fell onto of the officer and "began depriving him of air."
 
Schisel said Shephard put a "choke hold" on the officer while on the bar floor.
 
Shephard was eventually restrained and arrested on probable cause assault and obstruction with force charges.

The unidentified officer was treated and released from a Mankato hospital. He was cleard to return to duty.
