Mankato Police Assaulted Again While In Emergency Room



MANKATO (TEC News) -- For the second time this week, Mankato police officers have been assaulted in a hospital emergency room.

Police Commander Amy Vokal says they went to 620 South 4th Street to investigated a report of a domestic assault.

According to police, the female victim left the residence to call for help around 6:34 p.m.

The woman told police that Kyle Mitchell Overson, 36, of Mankato threatened to use a knife on her after a disagreement escelated into a verbal confrontation.

Police went to the address and made contact with Overson over the phone. After an unspecified amount of time, officers gained permission to enter the residence and arrested Overson without incident.

Vokal says Overson at first was cooperative, but became combatative in the ER of Mayo Clinic Health System hospital where he had been taken by officers for a mental health evaluation.

Officers say he began fighting with them, leading officers to Taser him three times only to have him keep fighting.

One officer received a cut on the cheek and had his duty shirt torn in the scuffle. The second officer injured his left finger, arm and elbow.

Police are requesting charges against Overson of 4th Degree Assault on a Peace Officer, Domestic Assault, Terroristic Threats, and Obstruction of the Legal Process with Force.
