Mankato (KMKO)-It's another jewel in the heart of Mankato and a celebration is scheduled this Saturday to mark its opening. Mankato's Community Athletic Fields is a complex of six baseball fields that serve the needs of the school district and the city.  Land acquired by Mankato Area Public Schools to build a new elementary school presented an opportunity to work with the city to develop and fulfill demand for youth baseball fields. The project was funded with 1.33 million dollars from the city of Mankato.  City Communications Director Shelly Schulz says the complex serves as a cornerstone for kids in the area. The Mankato Area Youth Baseball Association is contributing $10,000 annually for five years for maintenance. Several businesses have sponsored the fields and a scoreboard.  The grand opening begins at 9:00 Saturday morning.
