Mankato (KMKO)-The official motor vehicle crash statistics are in for the Mankato area in 2011.  According to the Minnesota State Patrol office in Mankato, there were 3,507 crashes in this area, with state troopers responding to 1,483 of them.  28 people died in those wrecks.  81 injuries were reported.  Statewide, there were 368 traffic fatalities last year, the lowest total since 1944.  Traffic safety will be the focus of a meeting today at the state patrol office in Mankato.  The "Towards Zero Death" steering committee will convene at 1:00.
