Area Teacher Workshop

New Ulm (KMKO)-The New Ulm School District wrapped up an innovative teacher training seminar yesterday.  The S.M.A.R.T. training workshops lasted four days.  S.M.A.R.T. stands for Stimulating Maturity Through Accelerated Readiness Training.  The program integrates activities in the classroom, gym and playground.  It's related to language development, reading, math, writing, physiological awareness and coordination and attention.  Some sessions involve "station rotation," giving the teachers a chance to try the same activities they will be doing with students. The workshops were sponsored by the Minnesota Learning Resource Center in Minneapolis, which is part of group called A Chance To Grow.  The attendees included 45 teachers from New Ulm, Mankato and one from Tokyo, Japan.
