Mankato (KMKO)-Two Mankato men have been charged with stealing checks and attempting to cash them.  Mankato police were called to United Prairie Bank on Firestone Drive early Monday afternoon after 21-year-old Alexander Maland attempted to cash a $500 forged check.  A passenger in Maland's car, 19-year-old Brock Halbmaier, told officers he had earlier smashed a car window and and grabbed a purse.  The check was stolen from the purse, which belongs to the daughter of the president and owner of the bank.  Maland and Halbmaier were each charged with one felony count of check forgery and one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property.
