ST. PETER-November 6, 2012-(KMKO)-Nicollet County prosecutors say a North Mankato couple allegedly starved their adopted son to the point that the 8-year-old weighed just 35 pounds. Mona and Russell Hauer, both 44, have been charged in Nicollet County with six felony counts of neglect, malicious punishment and endangerment of a child, as well as aiding and abetting neglect or endangerment.  Authorities were alerted to the child’s possible abuse after he was taken to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato on October ninth. Each of the six counts against Russell and Mona Hauer carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $10,000 in fines upon conviction.
