MANKATO-November 16, 2012-(KMKO)-Ground breaking began yesterday for the new memorial that will be at Reconciliation Park at 100 North Riverfront Drive. There will be a new Dakota Memorial that will be placed next to the buffalo. The new Dakota memorial is bronze, stone and fiberglass and includes names. In addition, there will be an interpretive plaque that outlines Blue Earth County Dakota conflict history. The total cost of the Dakota memorial is $110,000. Most of the funding has been received from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and there has also been generous in-kind support from area businesses.
