MANKATO (TEC News) - Recent discussions about a possible new plan for gas drive offs has left some gas station owners confused. Mankato Department of Public Safety Commander Dan Schisel expressed that this is on ongoing process to implement the best plan: Schisel 20 "better way" :08
Schisel explained that the process that will be implemented for a couple weeks as a trial consists of more investigating on the gas station's part to help the department narrow down specifics in the case. Documenting the license plate is asked of owners and managers. The process begins by sending a letter to the person who didn't pay by the station or corporate office. The certified letter is tracked and if the person never got it or they didn't come to pay within five days a report will need to be filled out by the employee that made the observation. This will be given to the authorities and then an investigation will proceed. Schisel commented that there are a lot of instances where the people may not have deliberately driven off and he wants to make sure through a different process. He wasn't expecting the number of responses, but the department plans to have another meeting to keep the process open. He assures everyone that the plan is to make this work smoothly for everyone.
