MANKATO (TEC News) - Despite the rising and fluctuating gas prices, especially during the summer months, some Mankato businesses don’t feel the effect.
The higher summertime prices are brought on by extensive refinery maintenance, especially in the upper Midwest. During maintenance, gas supplies are diminished, which ultimately raise prices, according to AAA.
For Mankato's Emerald Travel, customers continue to seek its expert travel advice, but have adapted the way they go about taking their trips, said Emerald travel agent, Lauri Ludewig.
Rather than losing business because people don't want to drive, Emerald helps people compare prices, so they know when it's cheaper to drive and when to fly.
The admission counselors and recruiters who may need to travel for Mankato's Bethany Lutheran College have also not felt the effects of rising gas prices, said Bethany Lutheran Dean of Admissions, Don Westphal.
When gas prices tend to rise during the summer months, college recruiters are generally not traveling. The recruitment process tends to take place beforehand when students are still in school.
As a way to save money when college recruiters do travel, they "bundle" several trips into one larger trip. Colleges, like Bethany Lutheran, have also adapted to use the "modes of communications" preferred by high school students, like Internet communication, said Westphal: Westphal 1 "the years" :7
