MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A September storm packing high winds, hail and heavy rain has swept across central Minnesota, knocking down trees and cutting power. The National Weather Service says winds measuring 77 miles per hour were reported at Renville in western Minnesota.
SARTELL, Minn. (AP) — Crews have extinguished an office fire at the site of the former Verso Paper mill in Sartell that was closed by a deadly explosion and fire last year. Yesterday's blaze was in one of the buildings sitting vacant since the explosion and fire a year ago Memorial Day in another part of the mill that killed an employee.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A federal appeals court has put a drive to unionize Minnesota home day care workers on hold pending the outcome of a similar case before the U.S. Supreme Court. The Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued its opinion yesterday. Opponents of a law to unionize day care workers had appealed after Chief U.S. District Judge Michael Davis dismissed their lawsuit, saying it was premature. Davis refused to grant an injunction that would have kept day care workers from unionizing while the appeal was pending.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A movie prop used in an unsettling scene from the movie "Fargo" will be part of Saturday's ESPN broadcast from the city of the same name. Charley Johnson with the Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitor's Bureau tells the Forum newspaper the wood chipper from the movie "Fargo" will be on the set of "College GameDay."
