Blue Earth County Reminds Residents of Med and Sharp Drop Offs



MANKATO (TEC News), March 27 – Blue Earth County sends out a reminder to residents wanting to dispose of unwanted medication or sharps. This program was established in December of 2011. Over 1,600 pounds of unwanted medication was collected last year.

Medication Drop Off
Sheriff’s Dept. Lobby (BEC Justice Center – 401 Carver Rd. Mankato, Minn.)
Between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday - Friday

Accepted Medicines:
  • Prescription Medications
  • Over-the-counter Medications
  • Narcotics and Other Controlled Substances
  • Medication Samples
  • Pet Medications
  • Vitamins & Supplements
  • Liquid Medication in Glass or Leak-proof Containers (please put in an additional plastic bag)
  • Medicated Ointments and Lotions
  • Inhalers
  • Street Drugs

NOT Accepted:
  • Mercury Thermometers  - Click here for proper disposal instructions
  • Sharps (Lancets, Needles, or Syringes) Click here for proper disposal options
  • IV Bags
  • Bloody or Infectious Waste
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Business Medicines 
Sharps Drop Off
Hy-Vee Downtown (410 South Riverfront Mankato, Minn.)
Hy-Vee Hilltop       (2010 Adams Street Mankato, Minn.)
Sharps should be packaged in a thick, solid plastic bottle, such as a detergent bottle. Cost is $5 per container and should not be placed in glass containers that can break, coffee cans or other containers that can pop open if bent.
Accepted:
  • ONLY sharps (Needles Lancets, or Syringes) are accepted in this program, no other medical wastes.
