LE CENTER – The elderly woman awaiting sentencing for the December robbery of a bank in Elysian is missing. An arrest warrant has been issued for 70-year-old Sandra Bathke.
Bathke entered a guilty plea on January 18th to one court of felony 2nd Degree Aggravate Robbery.
On December 15, 2010, Bathke duped the 26-year-old son her apartment complex’s land lord to drive her from Janesville to a bank in Elysian to get money to pay back rent.
Instead she went in and held up the teller.
The pair were arrested a short time later driving back into Janesville.
Le Sueur County Attorney Jason Moran says the warrant was issued after Bathke’s probation agent was unable to locate her to complete her pre-sentence investigation.
“She was living at a motel and the probation agent had been trying to contact her and simply has not been able to locate her.”
Judge Michael Baxter released Bathke without bail with standard condition.
It was a decision that still doesn’t sit well with Moran.
“I wasn’t happy with that decision…but the judge…that’s his role in this process and we have to respect what he does,” said Moran.
For now, the location of Bathke remains a mystery.
“When’s she’s found she’ll be taken into custody no matter where she is,” says Moran.
