Dayton In Mankato Today -- Local Reps Endorse His Budget Plan

ST. PAUL – Governor Dayton will be in Mankato this afternoon to talk about his budget plan released Tuesday to address the state’s $6.2 billion dollar budget deficit.

Dayton’s proposal includes nearly $3 billion dollars in new taxes on the state’s top earners, plus increased spending on schools. The budget would hold local government aid steady, with the goal of heading off future property tax increases.

Two area DFLers are reacting favorably to the governor’s budget.

Representative Terry Morrow of St. Peter calls the bill “Responsible, honest and balanced.”

Representative Kathy Brynaert of Mankato says she has concerns about the impact on nursing homes, but says it’s a “starting point.”
