MANKATO -- Minnesota State head men's basketball coach Matt Margenthaler has announced the singing of Zach Romashko and Charles McNeal III to join the Maverick basketball program next fall.
All signings are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
"I am very pleased with the signings of Zach and Charles," said Margenthaler. "They are quality young men that will represent Minnesota State University and our basketball program very well."
Romashko (ROW-mash-KO) – a 6-7, 215-pound – forward from Blaine High School averaged 21.7 points per game last year and 12 rebounds as he helped lead the Tigers to a 17-9 record and a 15-5 record in the Northwest Suburban Conference, good for a third-place finish.
"Zach was one of the more prolific scorers in the Metro area last season," said Margenthaler. "He is a very versatile player that can score anywhere on the court and he has a knack for the ball and a scorers mentality. I look for him to make an immediate impact on our program."
McNeal – 6'6, 210-pound forward – will enter the 2011-12 season as junior as he recently wrapped up a two-year stint at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa. The Milwaukee, Wis., native averaged 15 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per contest last season for the Lakers who finished 17-14 last season.
"Charles has a motor that never quits," said Margenthaler. "He is a player which will allow us to play big or small. Charles is a perfect fit into our system, his ability to rebound and finish around the basket will be a huge asset for us in the next two years."
The duo joins Kelly Madison (Des Moines, Iowa) and Miles Chamberlin (Madison, Wis.) who signed last fall during the early singing period.
