Last year, when Jerry Seinfeld was asked about the possibility of a Seinfeld reboot, he brushed it off. “Why?” he asked. “Maybe it’s nice that you continue to love it instead of us tampering with something that went pretty well.” In an era where shows like Roseanne, Murphy Brown, Will & Grace and more are all being rebooted, however, it seems more and more likely that Seinfeld might get the same treatment. Ellen DeGeneres, sensing that she probably couldn’t let Seinfeld leave without asking him about it, did just that on her show today.
“So all these sitcoms are having a resurgence,” DeGeneres began. “So Roseanne is doing it, Murphy Brown – is that really true? Murphy Brown’s doing it?”
“I think I know where you’re going with this, but why don’t you finish it,” Seinfeld jested.
“Do you think, Jerry, there would be a possibility that Seinfeld would come back?” DeGeneres asked. “It’s possible,” he responded, causing the audience to erupt into wild applause and cheers. “Oh, they like the idea,” Seinfeld acknowledged, leaving it at that.
You probably shouldn’t hold your breath for new Seinfeld episodes, but if you need to get your Jerry fix, you can stream his show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Netflix.
