Bavarian Blast Forecast 2019: Hot, humid, hammered

(New Ulm, MN) – “Ich bin wasted.”

That’s not a direct quote, but we imagine Bavarian Blast goers may utter that phrase during New Ulm’s annual German heritage festival of music, beer, food, beer, dancing, and more beer.

The city’s summer festival is often celebrated in the midst of heavy, damp Minnesota air, and its 14th year will be no exception. Your frosty mug of Schell’s Beer will be beading moisture almost as quickly as the perspiration forming on your Tyrolean-clad forehead.

Temperatures are predicted to soar up into the upper 80’s as the festival rolls out its first barrels Thursday, while Friday looks to be the hottest day of the polka party with a high of 90. Chief meteorologist Mark Tarello of KEYC News 12, tells SMN that dewpoints are expected to hit anywhere from 66% – 72%

That’s going to make for a stifling weekend in lederhosen, gell?

The weekend will gradually cool down after temps peak on Friday, with an expected high of 87 degrees Saturday. Sunday’s high of 82 and northwest breeze will be a relief that can only be compared to a strict German father refocusing his suspicious glare on a sibling.

Fortunately, Bavarian Blast has plenty of drink and food option to distract from the heat. Ein Prosit!
