Former Teacher Pleads Guilty To Sex With Teen Student

Erik Akervik pleaded guilty yesterday in court to having sex with a teenage student.  Akervik, who is 30 years old, is a former Burnsville High School music teacher.  He pleaded guilty in Dakota County District Court to one count of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct. A second third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge involving the same victim was dismissed.

The judge in the case set a sentencing hearing for June 14th.  Akervik had been employed by the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage school district since August 2013, working as a high school music teacher the entire time.  He was put on leave from the job after the allegations surfaced.

Charges filed in April allege that Akervik had intercourse with a 16-year-old boy in his apartment in August 2016. The boy was a student at Burnsville High School.
