(New Ulm, MN) – A Sleepy Eye man charged after stunning allegations that he and his wife abused his children was sentenced in court Monday.

Andy Jerome Fromm, 37, was convicted of gross misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child and misdemeanor domestic assault in Brown County Court.  Two additional counts of child abuse and a threats of violence charge were dismissed as part of a plea deal signed in May.

Fromm was sentenced by District Court Judge Robert A. Docherty to 60 days of jail.   The sentencing order says Fromm will be allowed Huber privileges if appropriate, which means he may serve his jail time on work release.  Fromm may also serve 15 days of his ordered jail time on “sentence to serve,” a program that puts nonviolent inmates to work on community projects.

Fromm was also ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with the victims unless they initiate phone contact.  He’ll also remain on supervised probation for a year and is ordered to complete an anger management program.

Court documents say Fromm and his wife, Stephanie, subjected his three children to various abuses at their Sleepy Eye home, including forcing the children to punch one another and making them sleep on the concrete basement floor.

Stephanie Fromm was recently cleared of the felony charges against and awaits her August sentencing.
