Hang on! High winds blow into region Monday night

(Mankato, MN) – At least it won’t be snowing when this wind is blowing.

Much of southern Minnesota is under a high wind warning for Monday evening at 5 p.m. into Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service says very strong northwestern winds will gust up to 60 miles per hour. NWS advises that people remain indoors and away from trees or branches during a wind storm.

The high wind warning expires at 7 a.m. Tuesday, but a wind advisory will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Winds are expected to gust up to 55 miles per hour during this time.

Affected counties include Blue Earth, Nicollet, Brown, Watonwan, Martin, and Faribault.

NWS says the winds of this magnitude could blow unsecured objects or possibly cause downed tree limbs or power outages. High profile vehicles should take extra precautions while driving in such conditions, according to NWS.

Tuesday will see the winds accompanied by cooler temps, with a high of 47 degrees. Winds will die down Tuesday evening, but don’t expect total weather rebound on Wednesday. NWS predicts Mankato could see morning snow and rain, with the sund expected to appear later in the day.
