Miss America 2025 Competition Highlights Local Connections and Meaningful Causes
ORLANDO, Fla. (Valley News Live) – The 2025 Miss America competition is underway in Orlando, with local connections highlighting the event. Emily Schumacher, Miss Minnesota and former Miss Mankato, and Miss North Dakota Sophia Richards, who works for Valley News Live, are among 52 delegates competing for the crown.
The event, which celebrates community service and charitable efforts, featured fitness wear, evening gowns, and interviews during preliminary rounds.
Miss North Dakota Richards spoke on mental health, sharing her work with BIO Girls, a program advocating for mental health awareness. “I won’t rest until every state has a BIO Girls program,” Richards said.
Miss Minnesota Schumacher focused on heart health, citing her work with the American Heart Association and raising $50,000 for the American Heart Challenge. “Heart health is a right, not a privilege,” she stated.
Preliminary winners included Miss Ohio, Miss South Carolina, and Miss Wisconsin in fitness wear, while Miss Florida, Miss Texas, and Richards won evening gown honors.
The competition runs through January 5, concluding with the crowning of Miss America 2025.
