Chick-fil-A Worker Jumps Out Drive-Thru Window to Save Choking Child
He went to work ready to serve up chicken sandwiches; he left work a hero. Logan Simmons, a 19-year-old Chick-fil-A employee in Hall County, Ga., went to work on Wednesday just like any other day—except it didn’t turn out to be like any other day.
Simmons, who was working the drive-thru in Flowery Branch, heard a woman in a car in the drive-thru line screaming that her son was choking, and Simmons decided to take action, Fox News reports. His egress from the inside to the outside: the drive-thru window. “I just jumped out the window and ran straight down to the car,” Simmons tells WSB-TV. “I think it was the quickest option.” Surveillance video from Chick-fil-A shows Simmons’ leap onto the pavement outside.
Once he got to the car, Simmons found the 6-year-old boy tangled in his seatbelt, his face turning red as the belt wrapped around his neck. Simmons whipped out a pocketknife and slashed the belt, setting the boy free.
“I’m amazed … he didn’t panic,” Simmons’ mother, Teri Simmons tells WSB, adding that when her son first came home from work, he didn’t even mention what had happened for a couple of hours. Then, she says, “he said nonchalantly, ‘I saved a kid’s life today,’ and I was like ‘What?'”
The little boy’s mother called Simmons not long after the incident to thank him properly. “I do feel like a hero,” Simmons says.
