Wallace Peoples has worked as a crossing guard for Sherwood Forest Elementary in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for two years. In that time, he has become a beloved figure to those who come in contact with him on a daily basis.
Last month, when the school community found out that their favorite crossing guard was unable to come to work because his car broke down — and the fact that he also spent Christmas Eve in the hospital — one parent decided to take matters into her own hands.
She posted about his misfortune on Facebook, and people wanted to pitch in. Not only did they manage to raise $2,500 for Wallace, but one parent also donated a car to help the cause.
Wallace was overjoyed with the outpouring of love.
