50-year-old Beatriz Flamini of Spain has been out of the loop for a couple of years and is slowly being caught up to speed, but that’s what happens when you’ve been living under a rock — literally. The extreme athlete spent 500 days living 230 feet underground in a cave. She did it to learn about the effects of solitude and deprivation on the human mind and body. She had a team of scientists and doctors monitoring her from above ground. She says she lost count of the days after about only two months and she spent her time reading, writing, drawing, exercising, and knitting. She also documented her time in the cave for an upcoming documentary.
