(Olivia, MN) – An Olivia woman Monday pleaded guilty to a charge accusing her of failing to report abuse of children in her daycare facility.

Peggy Uhlenkamp, age 45, ran the Rhyme and Reason daycare facility in her home, but earlier this year they were shut down after it was alleged Uhlenkamp’s 17-year-old son Trent had sexually molested three girls under her care.   Court records say Uhlenkamp knew of the abuse but did not report it, and she was charged with Failure to Report Abuse, and three counts of Child Neglect-Knowingly Permitting Physical and/or Sexual Abuse of three different children.

In court before Judge Dwayne Knutsen Monday, Uhlenkamp entered an Alford plea to the Failure to Report charge and the neglect charges were dropped. An Alford plea means she doesn’t admit guilt, but admits there is enough evidence to convict her.   She will be sentenced on the gross misdemeanor charge September 3rd and was released without bail. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered.

Earlier this month Trent Uhlenkamp was found mentally incompetent to defend himself on sexual misconduct charges. Renville County Human Services has been ordered to propose options for the boy, either with Child Protective Services or a possible civil commitment.
