According to a new study, dogs can detect trauma stress by smelling the breath of humans. Researchers found that service dogs trained to help people with PTSD can also be taught to detect these episodes by sniffing their breath. This study is important because if service dogs can be expertly trained, they can potentially stop PTSD episodes at an earlier stage — and make their interventions more effective.
